Dr. Matthew Quinn

Founding Executive Director Emeritus

Dr. Quinn became the founding Executive Director of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation in August 2000. Prior to working for the Foundation, Dr. Quinn served as President of Carroll College, Helena, Montana, for eleven years. Other positions he held prior to Carroll College include Vice President for Academic Affairs, Saint Joseph's University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Dean, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Iona College, New Rochelle, New York; Director, State Colleges Office, New Jersey Department of Higher Education, Trenton, New Jersey; and Assistant to the Executive Vice President and Assistant to Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, Boston College, Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Quinn received a B.A. in classics from Fordham University; a Ph.L. in philosophy, with honors, from Woodstock College; an M.A. in English from Fordham University; a Ph.D. in management of higher education, with highest distinction, from Boston College; and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He also has an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Carroll College. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar.

Dr. Quinn has served on many boards, including the American Association of University Administrators; advisor, Kellogg National Leadership Program, W. K. Kellogg Foundation; Commission on Women in Higher Education, American Council on Education; Chairman, Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, Helena Branch; and Executive Committee and Board of Directors, Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities. He currently serves on the Council on Foundations' Advisory Committee for Executive Programs and its Working Group on Stewardship Principles for Independent Foundations; is on the Board of Directors of the Council of Independent Colleges and of Washington Grantmakers; and is a member of the Mission and Identity Task Force sponsored by the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, and the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges.

Dr. Quinn is the author of numerous publications, and was the founding editor of The Holy Cross Quarterly and Crossroads, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts.
