Summer Assistant, Communications & Young Scholars

Responsible for supporting the Communications, Video Production, and Young Scholars Program departments. Communications tasks include research, social and new media, email marketing, and writing assignments. Duties for video production include research, transcribing video interviews, and setting up video shoots. Projects for the Young Scholars Program include data entry and database maintenance, research, supply ordering, and document preparation and digitalization. Provides other administrative support as requested for the departments, including filing, mailing, and correspondence.

Outreach & Communications


  • Contributes to the Foundation’s communication’s efforts by preparing material for publication on the Foundation’s website, social media sites, or in other venues, such as e-newsletters or blogs.
  • Contributes to the Young Scholars Program efforts by supporting the administrative work of the program coordinators.
  • Conducts research on topics of importance to the communications and Young Scholars departments. Prepares written and verbal reports summarizing results of such research.
  • Helps to build and maintain a database of JKCF Scholar stories to be used by communications and video production departments.
  • Logs tape by transcribing video interviews and shot-sheeting video footage.
  • Assists at video shoots by setting up lights and other grip-work related duties.
  • Assists with preparation and on-site aspects of summer events.
  • Assists with database maintenance for the Young Scholars Program, including but not limited to data entry and cleanup for grades, demographic informations, test scores, and summer programs.
  • Assists with purchasing Scholar supplies for the Young Scholars Program, including but not limited to books, subscriptions, printers, and other miscellaneous items.
  • Researches and compiles conference information for the upcoming year relevant to the work of educational advisers in the Young Scholars Program.
  • Digitizes documents useful for Young Scholars in preparation for the Extranet.
  • Helps to prepare and distribute materials both prior to and after the Young Scholars College Tour.
  • Communicates effectively with program staff, and, as necessary, with Scholars and their families.



  • Must be currently enrolled in coursework towards an associate’s or bachelor’s degree or have completed a bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong writer is needed so degree pursuing English, journalism, or communications is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with data entry is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Twitter, Facebook, and other valuable social media channels.
  • Must be a flexible team player, detail oriented, have strong organizational skills, and have the ability to juggle multiple projects.
  • Access to personal transportation/housing.
