Dr. Patricia A. Thomas

Specialist for Scholar Support

Department: Scholarship Programs

As the Specialist for Scholar Support, Dr. Thomas leads initiatives to enhance Scholar wellbeing and provides academic advising to College Scholars. Dr. Thomas joined the Foundation staff in 2007, serving initially as an educational adviser, then a Lead Adviser for the Young Scholars Program.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. Thomas taught college courses in education and trained K-12 teachers to serve a wide range of students. She has worked in public and private schools as a foreign language instructor and assistant teacher in gifted and enrichment education. She has also coordinated summer programs for the Duke University Talent Identification Program and served as a mental health counselor for a community agency.

Dr. Thomas completed a Ph.D. in Educational Studies from Emory University, specializing in multicultural education and second language acquisition. She holds an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Washington University and Ed.M. and an M.A. in Curriculum and Teaching/Urban and Multicultural Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has a B.A. in French and Spanish from Wake Forest University.
