Community colleges serve as a gateway to a baccalaureate degree for millions of students. Among them are many talented two-year college students from lower-income backgrounds who are prepared to excel at the nation’s best four-year institutions.
Yet, significant barriers limit the opportunity for such students to transfer to highly selective institutions. This matters because lower-income students who attend highly-selective colleges are more likely to receive a bachelor’s degree and enroll in graduate school.
With a mission of serving lower-income students with exceptional promise, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is working to expand opportunites for high-achieving, lower-income community-college students to attend the nation’s most selective colleges and universities through our Community College Transfer Initiative and our Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program.
