“Community college students bring a wealth of academic interests and curiosity to the Carolina campus. They also bring a wealth of life experience that enhances the learning environment for everyone. The Carolina Student Transfer Excellence Program helps ensure that students from our state’s vibrant community college system have a strong presence at Carolina.”
– James Moeser, Chancellor of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
In 2006, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) launched the Carolina Student Transfer Excellence Program (C-STEP) to enable more community college students to transfer to and graduate from UNC. Talented low- and moderate-income high school students are guaranteed admission to the UNC if they enroll at one of three local partner community colleges—Durham Technical Community College, Wake Technical Community College, and Alamance Community College—and complete the program successfully. C-STEP students will be academically prepared and fully engaged in the campus community, which are strong indicators of student success. Participating students agree to earn associate degrees and to participate actively in the program.
