The Foundation is dedicated to identifying and supporting low-income students who show exceptional promise in the fine and performing arts.  Through our Young Scholars Pipeline Grants, the Foundation partners with several organizations to provide budding artists with the specialized training and support they need to fully develop their unique gifts. 

From the Top

From the Top is a nonprofit organization that celebrates the passion, dedication and personal stories of the nation’s outstanding young classical musicians.  Through entertaining radio and television broadcasts, online media, live events, and education programs, From the Top encourages participation and achievement in the arts. Its innovative radio and TV programs offer talented students the opportunity to perform for a national audience and showcase their musical abilities as soloists or as part of an ensemble. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation partners with From the Top to identify and support promising young musicians with financial need.

Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, Inc.

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, Inc. recognizes and cultivates students in the 7th- through 12th-grades who have demonstrated strong artistic talent or creative writing skills.  With 76 regional partners in 30 states, the Alliance annually recognizes more than 30,000 young artists, writers, and their teachers.
 
The Alliance implements the well-known Scholastic Awards for 7th-through 12th-grade visual artists and writers.  Each year, more than 77,000 young artists and writers receive the opportunity to have their work reviewed by professional writers, artists, critics, and educators.  Notable past winners of the award include Truman Capote, John Lithgow, Bernard Malamud, Joyce Carol Oates, Sylvia Plath, Robert Redford, Cy Twombley, and Andy Warhol.
 
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation supports the Alliance’s efforts to encourage more low-income students to participate in the Scholastic Awards and to aspire to artistic excellence. The Foundation funds the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award for outstanding young visual artists and writers with financial need. Young Artists receive a $2,500 scholarship to pursue advanced study in the arts.

Levine School of Music

Since its founding in 1976, the Washington, DC-based Levine School of Music has become one of the country’s largest and most prestigious nonprofit community music schools.  Each year, 180 faculty members mentor and provide music instruction to more than 3,500 students, from preschool through high school.

Levine’s intensive programs offer instruction in 20 instruments and voice throughout the school year, as well as summer camp activities.  Levine also offers an Honors Program to nurture students with exceptional talents who hope to continue their studies at a conservatory after high school and pursue a career in music. 

Through its innovative outreach efforts, the school also provides free music instruction and programs to more than 700 children each year in the DC-area’s most underserved communities. The Foundation’s support enables the Levine School to provide additional need-based scholarships for promising young musicians.

MusicLink Foundation

The MusicLink Foundation partners with music organizations, community music schools, and independent music teachers in more than 40 states to provide free or low-cost music lessons for nearly 3,000 promising students with financial need. Nominated students who meet MusicLink eligibility criteria are linked with professional music teachers who provide ongoing partial- to full-scholarship lessons for as long as the child wishes to learn.

The Arlington, VA-based foundation collaborates with professional music organizations, community schools of the arts, colleges, universities, and performing groups to provide quality instruction and guidance for students in their local communities.  MusicLink partners with the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Young Scholars Program to identify and match the Foundation’s Young Scholars with local music programs and instructors.
