Biography

Stephanie Block was a busy person during high school, involved in a wide range of diverse activities that included being captain of her dance team and cheerleading squad, captain of the debate team and president of the youth group, and volunteer worker at a homeless shelter. When she entered college in 1999, she decided to narrow the focus of her involvement to activities that "expend energy in the academic area that would best serve my professional plans for the future."

Those plans are psychology and law. By the end of her third year at Union College, Stephanie had interned at the District Attorney's Special Victims Unit, where she worked with battered women, abused children, and crime victims. She also worked as an office assistant at her school's psychology department, worked as a camp counselor for children with HIV/AIDs, and currently spends five to seven hours a week as a Big Sister to a nine-year-old girl.

With one more year to go to complete her bachelor's degree in psychology at Union College, Stephanie plans to pursue a Ph.D. in psychology and at some point in her career return to school to study law. "Therapy works toward improving the welfare of a single individual, but only through law can we ultimately change society in ways that benefit large numbers of our fellow human beings," she says.
