"I believe that I am quite capable, through hard work, perseverance and determination, to rise above unfortunate circumstances and be anything I want to be."
Few would question Cindy Terry's decision to become a licensed counselor. While holding down a full-time job as an insurance billing clerk, Cindy has devoted much of her time over the years to helping homeless men, battered women and parents who have lost their children to the court system. "I want to help, and consequently, I need professional training and a college education to be able to successfully make a positive difference in their lives," she says.
A single mother, Cindy persevered through tough stages of her own life with the support of a strong circle of people whom she would like to emulate. "I want to be a person like them - one who sacrificially gives and influences the lives of others for their betterment."
Cindy attended Caldwell Community College in Hudson, North Carolina, and will transfer to Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory in the fall of 2002. She will still work part-time, but hopes to devote more time to her studies. She plans to pursue a bachelor's and a master's degree in psychology so she can become a licensed professional counselor.
