Biography

Juliane was first involved in theater during her high school years in Brazil. But she didn't find the culture supportive, and her family had negative connotations about the roles of actors and artists.

In college in the U.S., Juliane explored journalism, philosophy, and anthropology, but concluded that only in theater could she learn both through her rational and emotional sides, and find a connection between all the subjects she's interested in. She points out that, "As an artist, I have the power to affect others, to learn about various cultures, and to question my own culture and reality."

Juliane is on the dean's list and has twice been named a Foundation District Scholar while simultaneously working several part-time jobs. She is also a trained crisis counselor for the Alice Paul House, a shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Juliane hopes to make a career of working professionally as an actress and director. Then she will focus on community theater, making it available for people who would not otherwise experience it: in shelters, prisons, schools, and nursing homes-and engaging people, not only as spectators but as artists. She wants to "use community theater to promote awareness of social injustices, to instill empathy and imagination, and to help others find beauty in the little things we do every day that ultimately make us who we are. I believe this is my purpose as an artist and critical thinker, and my path to success."
