"Life happened, and I was faced with a decision to start a new life. Past experiences have helped me grow, and I started to gain more confidence and soon learned that I enjoyed roles of responsibility and leadership."
In 1998, Linda Greco returned to the workforce as a single mother of two, working part-time. She considered taking the "easy path" by going back to secretarial school for a refresher course and landing a job as an executive assistant. Instead, she decided she wanted more for her children and herself. "I wanted to set a good example, so I gathered up all of the courage I could find, and I enrolled in community college."
In just one year, Linda earned 43.5 credits while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She continually made the dean's list and was admitted to the honors program. No one was taken aback more by these accomplishments than Linda. "I was surprised to discover a competitive, confident person within myself that I never knew existed," she says.
In summer 2002, Linda received an associate's degree in accounting from Suffolk County Community College and transferred to Hofstra University in the fall to continue her studies. Linda plans to become a certified public accountant and later would like to earn a master's degree.
