Biography

Miranda L. Warner, 22, attained a perfect 4.0 grade point average at Longview Community College in Lees Summit, MO, before teaching mathematics and other subjects at Grandview Christian School. A skilled speaker and singer, she co-founded a motivational theatrical and musical troupe that performs in high schools across the Midwest. She is an accomplished keyboard player, and intends to pursue a dual degree in church music and secondary education, with the goal of becoming a music teacher.

Ms. Warner has earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average, was elected to Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and made the National Dean's List at Longview Community College (LCC). She also has won honors for her keyboard, singing, and speaking skills at a fine arts festival in her native Missouri. But the trajectory of her career seems most evident in another accomplishment: as co-founder of a team that appeared before scores of high school audiences in the Midwest while she herself was a high school student. The group gave presentations on alcohol and drugs, abstinence, and eating disorders. As part of its presentations, Miranda sings, acts, and delivers motivational speeches. But she has no intention of letting her role as a performer and educator end there. Her goal is to seek a degree in church music and music education, teaching in high schools and becoming the director of music for a church.

"I hope to write, direct, and lead the music of tomorrow," she says. "As the pianist in a church of 1,000 I have been able to experience some aspects of this already on a voluntary basis, but eagerly anticipate the day when I can direct my full attention to music as a career." Since her graduation from LCC, Ms. Warner has been teaching mathematics, English, and world history to high school students at her alma mater, Grandview Christian School. When she was a student there, she won a national scholar-athlete award and played on the varsity volleyball and basketball teams. She also worked one summer as a waitress and later was hired as a substitute teacher at a number of schools.

Miranda's teachers describe her as a perfectionist with great determination to succeed. And Miranda recognizes these character traits in herself too. In envisioning her future, she wrote: "I will be teaching teenagers how to develop their talents and express themselves through music. But most of all I will be a living example that you can accomplish your goals and dreams if you never give up! The legacy I pass on will go far deeper than the music I make."
