Biography

Allison Brown took a leadership class during her freshman year at DuPage that "revolutionized" her perspective toward life. The class was unique, she says, because it taught leadership skills by "humbling oneself and focusing on what one can do for others." While enrolled in the class, Allison worked at a crisis pregnancy center, where she changed her opinion about unwed mothers, and learned that one of the most effective ways to lead is through serving others.

Last year, Allison traveled to the Yucatan Peninsula where she visited impoverished children in the streets. It was then she decided that she wanted to use her leadership skills to help those around the world.

Allison received an associate's degree in political science from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and this fall will attend Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois to major in international relations.

Among her accomplishments while at DuPage: Allison was selected as a member of the Second Team in the All-USA Community College Academic Team Competition, which makes her one of only 60 students from a nationwide pool of more than 1,600 entrants to receive the honor. She also won first place in DuPage's Martin Luther King essay contest on diversity, as well as the Coca-Cola Community College Scholarship for service to the community. Allison also served as the student body president.
