"I would like American Street Ranger Youth Society to become an organization that will merge the wisdom of our elders with the younger generation. I believe they need one another, especially the youth who have lost their parents. The elderly need someone to impart their wisdom unto and teenagers need the consistent guidance and attention of mature adults."
Teveria Parks wants to become a psychologist partly "to discover some of the reasons and motivations behind individuals' choices and responses to life situations." Her own family "has experienced great loss and numerous hardships." She is the first woman on her mother's side of the family to attain a college degree.
Teveria says a Georgia program called Minority to Majority helped her get a solid early education, with teachers who helped her learn "through positive reinforcement and not from a fear of punishment."
Today, she is working with her father on writing a book. She also helped a young cousin overcome learning disabilities, rejoicing that today he reads novels and writes poetry. She, her sisters and her father created the American Street Ranger Youth Society and she draws on her psychology class to help the families it serves. "I believe my life's purpose is to help people live emotionally healthy and fulfilling lives."
