Biography

Since early childhood, painting has been Jacquelyn Singer's passion. Her need to create was fostered by her parents at an early age, and Jacquelyn still relies on her parents and twin, Jen, for emotional support. But their influence goes much deeper. Jacquelyn says, "My ability to create is valuable to me as a person, but what I value most is my family. Without them, I would not be the person I am today."

Jacquelyn is a dean's list student at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She hopes to one day take her work to people who otherwise would not experience art. She feels that "civic and professional duties are important to any individual who contributes to the development of society." She fulfills that duty by serving on councils and boards linked to the arts, education, medical, and law professions, as well as through volunteering. "Acquiring more knowledge in this field will enable me to be more active in the arts and my surrounding community," she writes. "I want to extend my involvement in the arts past the walls of my college institution and into the greater public to make art more accessible to others who do not have art in their day-to-day lives."

This strength of conviction and a tendency toward leadership have combined professionally for Jacquelyn. As a resident advisor, Jacquelyn assisted students in a creative environment, supervised events, shared artistic skills, assumed administrative tasks, and assisted teachers. She was also involved with demonstrations, workshops and discussions regarding the arts, career planning and leadership, and taught two high school classes and mentored elementary school students. As she prepares to continue her studies, she also prepares to carry her passion for performance and service to another level.
