Biography

Christina Cipriano is seeking a master's degree in international education policy from Harvard because it offers an interdisciplinary study of politics, educational policy, and international relations under a single umbrella. Frustrated by the tension between theory and practice in politics, she wants to translate her theoretical research into applicable measures for society. Further along, she expects to work with organizations like UNESCO or start her own non-profit organization. She was especially motivated to pursue such work by her summer experiences working with the "beautiful children and staff" at the Brookhaven-Roe YMCA.

Christina was the first in her family to graduate from high school. A natural leader, she has started programs and jumped into leadership roles whenever there was an opportunity. She started her own business designing and running birthday parties for children. She was elected president of Hofstra's chapter of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, and more recently to the society's National Executive Board. She also was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and served as a peer teacher for two upper-level political philosophy courses. Along the way, she has been pleased to discover the "power that comes with the privilege" of teaching, and how "truly rewarding reaching another person can be."
