Biography

PROFILE: Raised in a rural area of Oregon, Stephanie Randolph grew up in a loving, supportive family but with very limited financial resources. The family’s financial situation did not prevent Stephanie from pursuing her dreams. At 16, she raised enough money to join a two-week high school trip to Central America, where she volunteered at a medial clinic and hospital. The trip changed her life and set her on the path of becoming a nurse.
Later, Stephanie raised enough funding for another trip to Central America. This time she spent eight months in Guatemala as a volunteer at a children’s orphanage, an experience that taught her to “focus on identifying what each person’s true needs are.” As she pursued higher education, Stephanie worked full-time at a local manufacturing facility to support her family. She began as a front-office person with no college education; at the end of her tenure with the company, Stephanie was a member of a six-person management team.
Access to quality medical care has always been a personal issue to Stephanie (both of her parents suffered injuries which left them unable to work). She is committed to playing an important role in the improvement of health care delivery to those who need it most.
INSPIRATION: Stephanie’s parents, the most influential people in her life, have been instrumental in her development and achievements.
ASPIRATION: Stephanie plans to become a registered nurse.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: A member of the Oregon Junior Leadership Association, Stephanie has served as president of the Umpqua Community College chapter of the National Student Nurse’s Association. She has volunteered with the Shorepines Assisted Living Facility and the Over the Rainbow Hippotherapy Program in Gold Beach, Oregon, and with the Songs of Joy Home for Children orphanage in San Jacinto, Guatemala.
ACCOLADES: Stephanie was named her college’s Outstanding Nursing Student of the Year two years in a row. She has been on the President’s List for five semesters and is the recipient of the college’s Presidential Scholarship.
INTERESTING FACT: Stephanie plays a number of instruments and loves to sing. She once climbed an active volcano.
