"I believe that it is the duty of those with the most privilege to struggle in solidarity with those who have the least."
Christopher Sullivan compiled a 3.70 GPA at Seattle Central Community College while he put in a 40-hour week as editor of the school newspaper. In that role, and as lead copy editor and art director, he transformed The City Collegian. As a result, the paper won top honors in a regional contest. "Through this experience, I learned a lot about the need to speak up when something is wrong and how to speak up properly to instigate change," he says.
He also took the lead in other areas, forming a debate team, leading a get-out-the-vote drive, and becoming president of the student governing body. After he receives a bachelor's degree in government, Christopher intends to get a law degree so he can become an attorney on behalf of the disadvantaged. Eventually, he foresees himself as a member of the Seattle City Council, advocating for under-funded neighborhoods.
