Biography

PROFILE: Anne Thompson graduated from Georgetown University with a bachelor’s degree in government in 2004. Since then, she has worked for two nonprofit organizations focused on shaping public policy at the international and national level. At Popular Connection, Anne published articles on the intersection of population, development, and the environment while editing the organization’s quarterly publication. At Campaign for American Future, she produced videos and engaged media outlets on economic issues such as healthcare, alternative energy, and college affordability.
“While I have taken advantage of the many political opportunities available in the nation’s capital, I have also traveled beyond the beltway to pursue my interest in international affairs.” In Spain, Anne worked on a documentary miniseries about the country’s experience with terrorism, and in Mexico, led a delegation to a reproductive health organization.
Anne was selected as an Undergraduate Scholar by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation in 2002. “The Foundation gave me the financial stability that enabled me to start a career in nonprofit political advocacy, an industry with modest salaries and benefits.”
INSPIRATION: “The honor of being a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar has motivated me to keep challenging myself in the classroom and in my career.”
ASPIRATION: “My goal is to shape to the public policy debate by amplifying the voices of traditionally marginalized communities. I am interested in using writing, film, video and humor to help promote economic policy alternatives to a popular audience.”
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Since graduating from Georgetown University, Anne has worked on promoting economic justice in the US and internationally. She has also volunteered as a research director and assistant director for a documentary film series on foreign policy. As an undergraduate, she served as campus president of the Campaign to End the Death Penalty and as a congressional intern.
ACCOLADES: Anne was named by the Georgetown University faculty as the most outstanding graduating student in the department of government in 2004. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Sigma Nu.
INTERESTING FACT: Anne traveled to Cuba to study US-Cuba relations and to the El Paso/Juarez border to examine border issues.
