“I have become passionate about both the educational experience an all women’s institution provides to students, as well as the impact that a strong student affairs department has on student success.”
PROFILE: A Jack Kent Cooke Scholar since 2002, Amanda Bryant always had an interest in student life on campus. As an undergraduate, she was passionate about her work with campus activities and events programming. After graduation, she worked for a pregnancy and adoption center and later held a position as a para-educator, working with special needs children at the elementary school level.
While she enjoyed these jobs, Amanda felt that she “lacked the passion that I felt was needed to do them to the best of my ability.” She tentatively pursued the idea of work in student affairs by returning to Cottey College to work as a residence hall director. It was in this position that she decided to further her studies in higher education.
INSPIRATION: “My experience as a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar has allowed me the chance to live my life the way I wanted to: with a great education and a future career where I get to express my passion for higher education on a daily basis.”
ASPIRATION: “The pursuit of a degree in student affairs administration will make me more competitive in the field and allow me to find the position that will allow me to make the largest impact on the lives of students.”
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Amanda has always loved working with kids and has spent much of her time as a volunteer at a local center for abused, neglected, and special needs children.
ACCOLADES: Amanda was on the Dean’s List every semester of her undergraduate years. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa at her community college and also was valedictorian of her high school graduating class.
INTERESTING FACT: Amanda once held a job as a bridal consultant.
