Biography

Family difficulties translated into positive change for Leslie Good. "I moved to Arkansas to live with my father in July of 2002. I began to excel in school and developed better social skills. For the first time, I seriously considered attending college."

Leslie works to offset the costs of her education, and healthcare became her career goal. "I have a great respect for medicine due to the numerous health problems in my family. I have grown up understanding the importance of medicine and have seen its positive effects firsthand."

Leslie also feels dedication to humanitarian aid work, which she intends to continue in her pharmaceutical career, working overseas in a country such as Sudan, Rwanda, or Afghanistan. She plans to pursue international studies to enhance her ability to deliver medicine in economically developing nations. "I came home from work one day to find my parents watching Hotel Rwanda." This movie, based on the true story of a hotel manager who sheltered more than 1,000 people at the height of the Rwandan genocide, left Leslie astonished. "I decided that I would never be unaware of social occurrences in the world today. I threw myself into awareness and advocacy."

Various activities engaged Leslie's energies during her community college experience. She worked as a dietary aide in healthcare facilities, competed nationally in barrel racing, and carried a full academic load. On campus, honor students including Leslie participated in a disaster-preparedness plan focusing on the avian flu pandemic. During the campus International Month focused on Africa, Leslie petitioned to speak to the student body about the situation in Sudan's Darfur region. Her speech was deemed moving and informative, and received coverage on page one of the local newspaper. Leslie was honored when the faculty and staff at the college selected her to deliver the commencement address at her graduation. Leslie's friendliness and excellent speaking skills contributed to the success of many leadership roles, events, and projects in which she engaged.
