“I feel that anything in life can be achieved through hard work and desire.”
Ryan Baril is a talented student who ranks first in his class, but he is particularly proud of his achievements as a tennis player. The sport is his passion, but unlike his academic abilities, Ryan says tennis did not come naturally to him. Hard work and dedication earned him a place on the varsity team. “I’m there because I worked hard at it every day. I apply this value to all aspects of life. I believe that as long as I do my best, I can achieve anything!”
As a Young Scholar, Ryan has experienced a myriad of opportunities that he never dreamed he would be able to do. He has enjoyed weekly tennis and clarinet lessons, attended summer classes at Northwestern University, has been mentored in theater by a top play critic, and worked on community service projects in Australia. “Each one of these experiences has filled me with new knowledge and often times, a new outlook on the world,” he says. “I have a thirst for learning that can never be quenched, matched with a powerful taste for adventure and fun.”
Always there to help a friend in need, Ryan says his personal goal in life is to find a way to use his talents for the good of the world.
