Biography

Jason Joo embraced his favorite subject as a seventh grader, when he built his first desktop computer. He had looked inside a computer at the different types of hardware and become fascinated. Since then, he says, “I have immersed myself in computer technology.”

It was fortunate he could plug into the computer revolution from anywhere, since his family moved frequently, including to California, Florida, Texas, and New York. The moves did require Jason to learn what most mattered to him, though. “My flexibility and willingness to change helped me stand my ground,” he reflects.

Jason’s science director at Portledge, Sonna A. S. Hayduk, praises Jason’s “incredible academic ability” in AP chemistry and its lengthy lab experiments. She calls him “a highly self-motivated young man, often going beyond what is expected of him and seeking to fully understand the concepts and how they can apply to the real world.”

These traits should come in handy in years ahead, because Jason’s goal is to start his own company and design electronic equipment that will keep advancing today’s technology.
