Hart Nadav Feuer

Biography

Hart Feuer spent his formative years in Israel but grew up in Oregon. During his undergraduate years, he worked and studied in Germany, where he tried to gain a better understanding of the Green movement, and Cambodia, where he indulged his love of pottery and cuisine even as he learned that successful development depends as much on insights from anthropology and sociology as on economics.

As a student at Lafayette, where he earned election to Phi Beta Kappa, Hart was a member of the Technology Clinic, which worked on an urban renewal plan for cars, pedestrians, and bicyclists to co-exist safely on the streets of Easton, Pennsylvania. For several months following his graduation, he worked for two non-profit organizations committed to environmental justice for minority populations and food sovereignty. While meeting with rural elderly residents opposed to a landfill in their community, he "realized there are plenty of people on the margin and together we can make a monumental difference." As his ancestors would have appreciated, he intends to help make that happen.

Before Hart begins his studies at Oxford as a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar, he will pursue a year's study with the Arvara Institute for Environmental Studies at Tel Aviv University, Israel on a Fulbright award. His great grandparents were among the founders of the kibbutz movement in Israel, and he is following in their footsteps with his desire to pursue environmentally sound, sustainable development. His areas of study include the effect of cooperative environmental stewardship on political relations, trans-boundary environmental cooperation, and interdisciplinary research methods in development.
