Prema Kesselman

Biography

On May 22, 2005, Prema Kesselman gave her solo recital debut on flute at Carnegie Hall, including two pieces composed specifically for her. With that event, she reached what many would consider a career pinnacle. But Prema's career has only begun. Her next step is more focused study with Wissam Boustany at the Trinity College of Music, who has shown her the importance of playing with "light, brilliance, warmth, energy, and color." Mr. Boustany invited Prema to study with him after hearing her play at an international conference in Buffalo last year. Prema is also moved by Mr. Boustany's initiative to "use music as a catalyst to support humanitarian projects on an international scale."

Prema has played piano and flute since early childhood, and was teaching by the time she was 14. Today, she has 30 private students. Throughout high school and college, she enjoyed many performance opportunities, including touring to Australia with the Pasadena Youth Symphony and performing alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In summer 2005, she performed in South Asia for the first time - along with her brother, an oboist.

Prema dreams of cultivating her humanitarian ideals with her music-making and organizing concerts around the world. "Music can express the inexpressible and unify all people because it crosses all boundaries," she says. "What the world needs most today is a unifying force." With this conviction, she aims to have an international performance career as a soloist, recitalist, and orchestral and chamber musician, and to teach at a conservatory or university.
