“I am very observant and I notice many things about a person that other people wouldn’t notice. I don’t personally need to know a person for me to know them. All I need is to sit in a room with them for a minute. It’s really strange because I’m usually very accurate. This is one of the reasons I want to major in Psychology. I already analyze people . . . and myself actually.”
Highlights of Young Scholar Experience: Sara Bell called the Young Scholar Program a “godsend.” While being a Young Scholar gave Sara the opportunity to expand her horizons with summer programs around the nation and globe, what she is most grateful for and what she’ll remember forever is the friendship she formed with her advisor from the Foundation.
Profile: Sara “absolutely adores” the performing arts. Her life revolves around plays, concerts, opera, and ballet. The theater bug “bit” Sara at a very early age and is a motivating force in her day-to-day activities. She loves to meet people. In Sara’s way of looking at the world, every new person she meets represents a new story and a chance to learn from that person’s life and experiences. That may be the mark of a great future actress, or a great psychologist. It makes every day special for Sara and those around her. When asked how she arrived at this pinnacle in her academic career, first being chosen a Young Scholar and now one of the “chosen 39” recipients of the College Scholarship, Sara quickly responded that she has been blessed her entire life. Blessed with the ability to work hard and to avoid the easy road to academic success, but even more so, “blessed because God surrounded me with positive people who want me to succeed.”
Inspiration: There have been many teachers, family members and friends in Sara’s life who have, as she jokingly puts it, “helped me turn the negative curve balls thrown at me into positive ones.” The many people that have taken Sara under their wing over the years are constantly in Sara’s heart and prayers. “I never want to disappoint them. They believe in me and they help me believe in myself.”
Aspiration: The young native of West Virginia wants to be an actress.
Making a Difference: Sara is an on-campus leader at St. Margaret’s School in rural Virginia. As a student ambassador she is a big-sister to many of the younger students at the prestigious girls school. It’s a good feeling, she says, to know that she has helped many students at St. Margaret’s. “I like knowing I can make a difference in a girl’s life.”
Accolades: At both St. Margaret’s and at her first high school, Oldfields School in Maryland, Sara earned academic distinction as an honor roll student.
Interesting fact: “Dear Abby”, the famous advice columnist may have some future competition. Sara says she loves giving people advice.
