HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUNG SCHOLAR EXPERIENCE: Moeun received a new violin and was able to take music lessons without having to worry about the financial burden. She has participated in summer programs ranging from archeology to engineering.
PROFILE: Moeun came to the US from South Korea at the age of seven. As a child, her biggest challenge was learning English. After a year of hard work and occasional tears, she achieved fluency. “It has been ten years since I first set foot in America, but mastering English is still the accomplishment of which I am most proud. The challenge taught me about determination and self-motivation.” Moeun recently developed an interest in art history, which she pursues through an internship at the Japan Society and by visiting New York City’s countless museums and galleries. She also enjoys watching documentaries, reading, practicing yoga, and seeking out exotic cuisine.
INSPIRATION: Moeun is inspired by her parents, talented peers at school, and enthusiastic teachers who have challenged, motivated and encouraged her to discover her passions in life.
ASPIRATION: Moeun has many interests and is exploring her career options.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Moeun is a member of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, the National Young Leaders Conference, and the Korean American Youth Leaders Conference.
ACCOLADES: Moeun received the AP Scholar Award for scoring a three or higher on three AP exams. Her top PSAT score earned her the distinction of being named a National Merit Scholarship Winner.
INTERESTING FACT: Moeun is a member of a traditional Korean drumming ensemble.
