HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUNG SCHOLAR EXPERIENCE: Adam delved into areas as diverse as Chinese philosophy and computer game design. He studied the first at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center in Nanjing, China. To pursue the second, he attended University of Michigan’s Camp Computer Aided Engineering Network (Camp CAEN) three years in a row learning to work with C++, Java and 3D Studio Max and HTML. He also attended the Internal Drive (ID Tech) Camp, a week-long computer game design course at Carnegie Mellon University. “The most valuable thing I have learned is to appreciate all opportunities.”
PROFILE: Raised in inner-city Detroit by his aunt, Adam has varied interests that range from art, football and computer science to Asian culture, theater and dancing, particularly tap. “Most know me as an avid artist, an athlete and student leader who can be seen performing tap dances at school talent shows. Some know me as a person who fancies himself a poet, and others know me as a video gamer who enjoys animated movies and Celtic music by Karan Casey.”
INSPIRATION: Adam’s inspiration is to leave a “positive, lasting impression that is worthy of all the energy my family and friends have shared with me, so that I may begin to rebuild the Hamilton legacy that fragmented long before I was born.”
ASPIRATION: To become an actor and an architect.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Adam participated in the Cranbrook Peace Foundation’s Youth Leadership Project and is a member of Children of Abraham, a youth dialogue project for diversity. He also helped clear the Rouge River of pollutants as part of Detroit’s River Rouge Project.
ACCOLADES: Adam received his school’s Margaret Avery Augur Scholar Award for excellence in art and academics, as well as the Varsity Letter Award and the Athletic Award. He is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. One of his papers was published in his school’s Prize Papers book.
