“I am excited to bridge new horizons and face academic challenges, this time in a college setting.”
Growing up with a diverse group of friends, many of them fellow immigrants, Bryan Lee says he became captivated by different cultures. He has been a dedicated member of the Model United Nations organization at his school, speaks Spanish, and is treasurer of the Spanish Honor Society. A boyhood fascination with other cultures has become his long-term academic path.
Bryan says his experiences as a Young Scholar have reinforced his goals and rewarded him with new friendships. Last summer, he went to Costa Rica to build houses in a rural area. “I made lifelong friends with other volunteers who share with me a thirst to immerse oneself in foreign cultures and a frustration with the status quo that drives one to help those who did not have the luck of being born into good fortunes.”
Bryan plans to focus on social studies, particularly economics, in college and beyond, in order to research methods for generating economic mobility in developing countries. This way, he says, he hopes to make a difference in the lives of the peoples whose cultures have captivated him so.
