“As a JKCF Scholar I maintained a healthy balance between educational excellence and extracurricular involvement. By setting "SMART" goals I was able to maintain the level of academia set forth personally by me and professionally by Jack Kent Cooke. I learned to prioritize and manage my time in the most effective and efficient manner. I exercised the 3 D's: dedication, determination, and discipline. Finally I was given consistent and constant support from my loved ones.”

Biography

Profile:  Graduate school.  Two words that once seemed like a distant mirage to Sade Scott are now a reality and an attainable goal.  The remarkable and vibrant Chicago native who overcame several personal challenges and a poor educational foundation has her bachelor’s degree behind her and is weeks away from beginning the next challenge in her young life, graduate school and an M.B.A.  A few things happened since her days as a high school student in the Windy City.  First and foremost, a loving family kept providing her support and guidance and the Foundation was alerted to her ability and promise and she was named one of the first Young Scholars.  All Sade needed was a chance.  She showed her true colors in high school in and out of the classroom and when it was time for college, she chose historic Hampton University in Virginia and graduated with honors with a degree in business. Actually, Sade was thinking far into the future back in high school.  When accepted to Hampton in 2007, she knew she would be sticking around for an additional year to attain her master’s.

Inspiration:  When Sade was eight-years-old in Chicago she met a woman named Audrey Wheat who became her guiding light in education and life.  “Though I am not her child, she treated me as such. She has supported me mentally, spiritually, and financially over these last 14 years. Her own children are examples of the end result of amazing parenting. I was inspired by her life and the impact she had on others. Her encouraging words and uplifting spirit always helped me keep my eyes on the prize.”

Aspiration:  Once Sade earns her M.B.A., she hopes to join the business world as a Marketing/Sales Consultant. “A masters from this program will afford me numerous opportunities that are not limited to one specific industry. Having such a diverse portfolio will make me more marketable to employers.”

Making a Difference: Sade had the opportunity to take a different path than that of her siblings, parents, and grandparents. “None of them attended college and they all ultimately led tough lives. I decided to become a product of my decisions, not my environment,” Sade said.

Accolades: At Hampton, Sade was named Business Leader of the Year, is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society, Sigma Beta Delta Business Honor Society, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. This fall, Sade will have served as President of the Leadership Application Program, a key component of the 5 Year MBA Program, for 4 consecutive semesters.

Interesting Fact: Sade collects Mickey Mouse paraphernalia.
