"I am motivated by my strong passion for the eradication of poverty through economic research and implementation."
Maliheh Paryavi was only nine when her family immigrated to the United States from Iran. Her childhood memories of war and poverty are the catalyst for what she hopes will be a career in economic development. Being an exceptional learner, the challenge of learning a new language and "fitting in" were minor compared to the hardships she had already faced, and Maliheh eagerly entered college at the age of fourteen. When she was only 19, Maliheh graduated with a double degree in economics and finance with highest honors, and had already been working as a research assistant at the World Bank for more than a year.
She was one of five team members responsible for writing an influential World Bank report on gender and development in the Middle East and North Africa. She then went on to work at the World Bank's Treasury in the area of banking and public debt management for two years. She is now pursuing an advanced degree in public administration in international development at Harvard University to further her skills on a path to a Ph.D. in economics. Maliheh aspires to be a leading economic scholar, focusing particularly on emerging market economies.
Maliheh also possesses a passion for helping others and is actively involved in her community. "I have the responsibility to serve as an inspiration for the disadvantaged youth and future generations of my family and my community."
