Biography

PROFILE: Ever since her high school days, a career in medicine is all that Bucknell University graduate Brittney Kulbeda wanted. She loves working with and helping patients and brings that enthusiasm to her position as a Certified Nurses Assistant (a job she’s had for over three years while she’s been attending college). So it was no surprise when she told her family and friends that she wanted to become a Physician Assistant, which would enable patient contact “without the rigamorole of business litigations.” But fate got in the way. During a chance meeting with a few Bucknell Trustees, she was encouraged by the college leaders to “rethink” her career decision and apply to medical school.

INSPIRATION: There are two people at Bucknell that Brittney looks to for guidance and support. Mark Davies is an administrator who helped her in the transfer process and the other, Mark Haussmann, helped shape her career focus. She also credits a service trip to Uganda sponsored by an organization called Operation Renewed Hope for bringing her dream into focus.

ASPIRATION: Brittney hopes to earn dual degrees in Medicine and Public Health; and ultimately also study for a Ph.D.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Every day Brittney makes a difference in the lives of patients she deals with. Currently, as a nurses assistant and in a few years as a doctor. Helping the ill and those who can’t help themselves is what this Jack Kent Cooke Scholar strives to do.

ACCOLADES: Brittney was awarded the Bucknell University Scholarship for incoming community college students and was chosen for an internship by the Kemper Foundation.

INTERESTING FACT: For fun Brittney loves to babysit.
