“I hope I never stop learning, because when I stop learning, my characters stop learning and growing, acting and living.”
When Emily Hudson writes fiction nowadays, she says her characters dance across the page. “I could imagine many various reasons why my writing lives and breathes more than ever – I’m maturing, I’m learning new things, I’m meeting new people – but, to be honest, it’s a combination of them all. With help from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, I came to Choate and now my characters feed off the diversity I’ve seen here,” she says.
At Choate, Emily is an enthusiastic student and writer. Her academic accomplishments include receiving the Student Council Leadership Scholarship, being accepted into the prestigious Choate Capstone Writing Program, and making the Dean’s List for her school. Additionally, Emily is also involved in extracurricular activities. She’s captain of the varsity archery team, part of the backstage theater crew, and president of the Alternative Spiritualities Club. As a Young Scholar, she has also taken summer enrichment courses in psychology and government.
Emily’s career goal is to become a psychiatrist working with patients who have severe mental disorders. “Writing has been and will remain my strongest passion, something I’d love to do for a living, but if not, I’ll gladly continue as a secondary career,” she explains. “In my mind, psychology, my other interest, goes hand-in-hand with writing.”
