Biography
PROFILE: Becca Kuhn has always loved literature. “When I was younger, I would spend my winter days reading under a warm blanket while most of my friends were outside building snowmen or sledding.” Even as a child, she was fascinated by the different ways in which words could be combined to tell a story or share an idea. “What still amazes me is that with a simple manipulation of grammar, I can change the entire meaning of one sentence.”
Becca survived many challenges in her teens and early twenties. Finding her way back to school and her dream of a college education has not only rekindled her passion for English and writing, it has inspired a desire to teach. Now a single mom supporting two daughters, she has never been happier: “I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to finally be a college student, and I know that I am setting a positive educational example for my girls. I have never felt so alive.”
INSPIRATION: When Becca was accepted into the Honors Program on her community college campus, “I was finally able to recognize my own potential.”
ASPIRATION: Becca plans to become a high school English teacher.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Besides serving as Vice President for the Women’s Studies Club on campus, Becca reads with second graders for the Baltimore public schools. She is also on staff at the Montage, the campus newspaper.
ACCOLADES: Becca, who has been on the Dean’s List every semester, was awarded the Giles B. Cook Scholarship and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
INTERESTING FACT: Becca still enjoys singing into her hairbrush.
