Rose A. Lynch

Biography

PROFILE: Rose Lynch has been active in social causes for years, working with troubled children and teenagers, and traveling overseas with various ministries. Before finding her way to college, she had already developed a habit of learning whatever she needed to learn. She borrowed books from the library, taught herself to use the computer, and in turn began teaching those same skills to others. But she refused college, having heard over and over again as a child that she was not smart enough for college, and the world of higher education was not the route people in her family chose.
Rose’s journey since has taken her to West African nations, Europe, and the Ukraine. “These sponsored trips gave me insight into the idea of global poverty and global responsibility. I discovered that my pain was not unique, and that I could reach out to others while healing my own emotional scars.”
INSPIRATION: Rose was inspired to apply for college by three mentors, Jefferson Haase, Reverend Alan Barrow, and Dr. Dennis Rawlings, who assured her that she could succeed at a university, believing in her and encouraging her to “go for it.”
ASPIRATION: Rose aspires to a career in public service, either through law and/or theology. “I hope to use my writing and speaking skills to educate and inform my community about the needs of people around the globe, as well as those within my community.”
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Rose has interned with the Tulsa Opera Guild for public awareness and education, and volunteered at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center for outreach and diversity awareness. She also volunteered as a mentor with Love for Life, an organization of halfway homes for women in addiction and coming out of prison.
ACCOLADES: Rose received the Gov. George Nigh Foundation Scholars of Academic Promise Award, was a Provost Scholar, won the Coca Cola Leadership 101 Scholarship, and served as Vice President of her Phi Theta Kappa chapter, and was President of her Student Government Association. She is currently serving as a Student Advisory Board Member for the OK Regents for Higher Education, representing private universities and their students.
INTERESTING FACT: Rose’s all-time favorite movie is Spartacus.
