“Completing my bachelor’s degree is only the beginning. I plan on attending law school. I am breaking the cycle.”
PROFILE: Christine McHone holds a full-time position as Senior Accounts Receivables Representative for Accenture, while attending college and volunteering extensively. This year, she recruited eight members of her Phi Theta Kappa chapter for a campaign to register 27,805 new organ and tissue donors, calling it “the most aggressive and challenging initiative I have ever undertaken academically or professionally.” She hopes it will result in a life being saved.
Christine has met all kinds of challenges in her own life, including caring for two younger siblings and helping to support her family while still in high school. She now plans to give up full-time employment for the opportunity to complete her undergraduate studies at Columbia University and continue on to law school.
INSPIRATION: During Christine’s divorce she searched for – but never found – a divorce attorney who would handle her case at no charge. When she becomes a lawyer, she plans to provide that service pro bono to women without the financial means to escape their circumstances.
ASPIRATION: Christine plans to become a corporate attorney, specializing in public policy and international law.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Volunteering is part of Christine’s character. She was vice president of scholarships for the Nu Pi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, chairperson and co-founder for Accenture’s Corporate Citizenship committee, and has served as a political campaign volunteer, among other efforts.
ACCOLADES: Christine made the All-Ohio Academic Team, was awarded the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation two-year scholarship, and received the Fallen Hero Scholarship from the Yellow Ribbon Support Center of Cincinnati.
INTERESTING FACT: Christine owns more than 200 turtle figurines.
