Biography

PROFILE: Rosario Pozzo is both living and sharing her dream. Her parents brought Rosario to Florida from their native Peru so she could receive an education. With the assistance of the Foundation, the honors graduate of Palm Beach State College is on her way to reaching her next goal: attending a four-year college, and eventually becoming a pediatric nurse. Rosario started community college as a part-time student balancing both school and work. Still, she wanted to fully experience college, and joined as many service organizations as possible. She rose up the ranks and held various leadership positions in Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, and the Palm Beach State College Student Government. Rosario graduated from Palm Beach State with a 3.98 GPA and many friends from her service organizations.

INSPIRATION: Two women in Rosario’s life mean the world to her: Susan Miller-Persin from Boca Raton High School, and Bobette Wolesensky from Palm Beach State College. “Mrs. Miller was the first person to believe in me, help me develop leadership skills, and instill a love for my community,” Rosario said. “Bobette has also been like a mother to me and helped me reinforce my abilities as a leader in Phi Theta Kappa as well as in my life. I am forever thankful to have met such wonderful and inspiring women. They have a very special place in my heart.”

ASPIRATION: Rosario hopes to work in the field of pediatric nursing as a nurse practitioner or in a career in health care administration.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Rosario was very active in community service projects both on and off campus. She took on a leadership role and recruited campus volunteers for the Boca Helping Hands organization which operates soup kitchens throughout the region.

ACCOLADES: She is a member of the All-Florida Academic Team and was named President of her school’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. In addition, she was acknowledged as a “Top Ten Grade Point” Scholar at Palm Beach State College.

INTERESTING FACT: While at Boca Raton Community High School, Rosario was known both for her classroom smarts and her dancing skill as a champion “hip hop” dancer. During her sophomore year, the Lady Bobcat Dance Team won 1st Place in an Orlando, FL dance competition. As a result of the win, Rosario and her team were invited to perform in a halftime show at an Orlando Magic basketball game.
