Biography

Profile: Patricia Boone has beaten the odds.  Raised in foster homes after having witnessed horrific violence as a child, Patricia is driven to help others who had similar backgrounds and suffered as she did.  Her many mentors and the Foundation recognized there is something special that’s now driving Patricia in the right direction.  Graduating from Shasta College with a near perfect GPA, Patricia is bound for the University of California at Berkeley.  Ten years ago while still a ward of the State of California, the thought of attending one of the top universities in the nation, let alone the world, seemed impossible and a distant pipedream.  But Patricia, as we said, is good at beating the odds and right now, nothing seems impossible to her.  Her eventual goal after Berkeley is a law degree and then, hopefully, to become a judge.

Inspiration:  Many individuals have touched Patricia’s life but she has three key mentors. “My professional mentor is Christine Silver, my current boss. She has always been a source of strength, and her renaissance approach to business assures me that I can have it all.”  Next, is her academic mentor, Toby Bodeen at Shasta College, who was the first person Patricia encountered as a first-time student since she was 15. “It was her gentle nature, positive attitude, and belief in my abilities that has made it possible for me to reach for my goals, and to set high aspirations.” Finally, her life’s goal mentor is Judge Monica Marlow, “who has taken me under her wing over the last few months and has given me invaluable professional advice regarding law school, mission statements, and thinking beyond the bench.”

Aspiration:  Patricia hopes to eventually earn a law degree, be elected to public office, and possibly become a judge.

Making a Difference: Patricia said her “claim to fame” at this point has been her involvement in her community. “I am a public speaker who is an advocate for former foster youth pursuing higher education. I also share my life story with various organizations such as Rotary, Kiwanis, CASA, local continuation schools, and have trained social workers in hopes to educate people on overcoming stereotypes, obstacles, and personal pain.”

Accolades:  In addition to being on the Dean’s List for three years at Shasta, Patricia won the EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services) Student of the Year Award in 2011 and received the Rotary Honor to Youth Award. She also gave the commencement speech at the 2011 Shasta College graduation and has been admitted into the UC Davis Law School King Hall Outreach Program (KHOP) Summer 2011 and Summer 2012.

Interesting Fact:  Patricia loves classical music.
