Biography

Profile: Stephanie Harrison has priorities. First and foremost, she wants to be a positive role model for her son.  That’s tops in Stephanie’s mind.  Secondly, she wants to finish her education.  The former priority she accomplishes daily.  The second is a work in progress, but with a perfect GPA at Maui Community College, the admiration and respect of her advisors, faculty, and fellow students, including scholarship offers for continued university study...she is on her way to achieving the latter priority as well.  While at Maui CC Stephanie, who received a degree in Substance Abuse Counseling, was recognized on the All-USA Academic Team.  Stephanie and Maui CC were a perfect match for each other and the perfect place for her to start her academic journey. “I discovered my passion for learning during my first semester,” Stephanie said. “I found myself interested in everything my instructors had to say, absorbing as much information as possible.”

Inspiration:  Stephanie points to Lee Stein as “an incredibly gifted, passionate and inspirational instructor who influenced me greatly and pushed me to achieve my goals.”  Stephanie is indebted to Ms. Stein “for paying close attention to my career goals, teaching the most interesting classes, and for mentoring and advising me...I owe much of my success to her.”

Aspiration:  After earning her bachelor’s degree Stephanie hopes to go into the field of social work, specifically as a drug counselor.  Having seen first hand what addiction can do to the individual, their families and communities, helped me to choose my educational and career goals in the Substance Abuse and Social Work field. I look forward to spending my life helping others turn their lives around and embrace recovery, putting an end to the vicious cycle of addiction.”

Making a Difference
: On her first day of college, Stephanie came to the realization that she enjoyed school.  And just as quickly she wanted to better the campus community.  That realization led Stephanie to resurrect the Maui Community College’s Human Services Club.  As president, she organized efforts by the club to help support needy children on Maui. Stephanie also became very active in Phi Theta Kappa and was named a Vice President. In addition to raising her son, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and working, she was also named Senior Editor of the college literary journal.

Accolades:  In addition to the JKCF Scholarship, Stephanie also was awarded the USA Today/Coca Cola Bronze Scholarship and the Executive Women International's ASIST Scholarship.

Interesting Fact:  It is no surprise that Stephanie loves the beach and is adept at snorkeling.
