“I firmly believe that success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others. I don’t want to be remembered for my success as a student, a musician, or a nonprofit business manager. I want to be remembered for living my life for others.”

Biography

PROFILE: Faith. That one word is how Kristina Rose Weaver describes how she has been able to accomplish so many things in her 24 years on earth. She doesn’t hesitate a second in saying her strong religious beliefs have gotten her over some rough patches. Whether it is volunteering on campus in Indianapolis or in the classroom, Kristina lives her faith each waking moment of the day. She originally was planning a career in music and earned her bacherlor’s degree in that subject. But her life-changing event happened a few years ago when she began tutoring homeless children at a shelter. “As I tutored the children, I realized that the most important thing I can do with my life is to use my skills to help others.” It was after working with the homeless youngsters that she changed her mind about what to study in graduate school.

INSPIRATION: Dr. Nancy Caldwell, Kristina’s music instructor at Lake Land College challenged her to achieve more than she thought possible. “Her confidence in me resonates in my mind whenever I face a challenging situation.”

ASPIRATION: Kristina hopes that a degree in nonprofit business management and philathropy will open many more opportunities for her to use her talents creatively to serve others. She hopes to create a non-profit organization that donates musical instruments and provides classical music lessons to underprivileged children.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE: In addition to her volunteer tutoring duties at the homeless shelter in Indianapolis, Kristina has organized an annual School on Wheels benefit concert to raise money for her homeless students. Independent of her work at the shelter, she works as an  executive assistant and volunteer manager for an organization called Ovar’coming Together that promotes awareness and research of ovarian cancer.

ACCOLADES: Kristina was awarded a Generation “E” Musician’s Scholarship from the world renowned Eastman School of Music. She was also a regular fixture on the Dean’s List at both the University of Indianapolis and Lake Land College.

INTERESTING FACT: Kristina has a brown belt in Taekwondo (Korean martial art).
