“Being a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar does not end at graduation. It will continue to influence my life in my personal expectations and achievements, as I strive to go beyond my best and achieve the high goals I set for myself.”
PROFILE: After graduating from high school with no financial support available for college, Linda Siegmann spent the better part of the next 14 years working for an opportunity to continue her education. “My focus never wavered. Even though it was 14 years later when the opportunity presented itself, I finally got into college.”
Linda’s career goal crystallized in high school when she took an accounting class. “I became aware that I enjoyed accounting work and that I excelled at it. I knew from that point on that I wanted to go to college and get my CPA.” The focus of most of her adult life has been working to attain that dream. After receiving her associate’s degree in business administration from Tulsa Community College, Linda transferred to The University of Tulsa as a Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship recipient.
INSPIRATION: Steven Woods, a professor at Tulsa Community College, identified potential in Linda that she had not yet recognized in herself. “He provided guidance and encouragement that assisted my academic aspirations and achievements. I will be eternally grateful for his invaluable mentoring.”
ASPIRATION: From an early age, Linda has dreamed of becoming an accountant.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Linda has served on the Mayo School PTA as auction committee chair since 2007. She has been a den leader with the Boy Scouts of America since 2006.
ACCOLADES: Linda’s honors include the Dean’s Honor Roll at The University of Tulsa, Student of the Year at Tulsa Community College, and the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Oklahoma Leadership Award.
