Julian-Israel Gimotea Canizares

Biography

Julian-Israel Canizares, also called J.I., says he has never been the type of person to limit himself to one area. He is an award-winning student, who has persisted with a rigorous curriculum throughout high school. His hard-work and perseverance helped him attain the AP Scholar Award, the AP Scholar with Distinction Award, and make the honor roll. In addition to his academic achievements, J.I. is also an artist, a singer, a musician, a writer, an actor, an athlete, and a leader.

“Julian is one of the finest young men it’s ever been my pleasure to know in my 38 years of teaching. He is bright, helpful, respectful, interesting and interested in many things,” says his high school vocal music instructor Ronald Frezzo. “There are hardly any students with his qualifications for life; he will be successful in almost anything.”

J.I. says his experiences as a Young Scholar have changed his outlook. Through the Foundation’s AMP program, J.I. had the opportunity to participate in a law and policy seminar in Washington, DC. “The experiences of analyzing actual court cases and the process of law in our nation’s highest court and of being able to interact personally with Justice Breyer were unbelievable,” he says. “It not only stoked my passions and interests to a new level, but I also found a family within a family, a group of people I love and can always rely on as friends, colleagues, and advisors.”
