“I have struggled, even failed at times. But a small failure can teach more, and bring about a greater success.”
Michael Drzyzga is a scholar with great intellectual maturity and critical-thinking skills, according to his English teacher, Judith Chelte.
Michael is also an introvert. But that is something he has set out to change. He has become active in Boys State and the Key Club, volunteers in soup kitchens and for toy drives, and won a slot on his school’s trivia competitions team.
As one outward move has led to another, Michael has found his social skills strengthening. He also has discovered an interest in politics, which was piqued in particular by a trip to Washington. His various steps outward have begun to connect. He admits, “Without practice at Boys State, I doubt I would now be serving on the Student Advisory Council.”
Michael expects to keep expanding his circle of friends, though he knows the career that interests him – being a chemistry researcher – can be a solitary one. In that realm as well, he believes his future will be full of discoveries. He wants to help “unravel the chemistry of everything – creating new miracle cures, better materials for cars and bulletproof vests, and perhaps even a better fuel source for tomorrow.”
