Joseph Simmons

Biography

Joseph Simmons is equally at home studying math or physics or political philosophy or literature. As a Young Scholar, he skipped sophomore year in high school. Under challenged at the local public school, his family was pleased to be able to consider the local private school with Foundation assistance. Attending Cistercian has opened up worlds of opportunity for this eldest of seven children. There, his love of learning has flourished. Attending University of Dallas where he can increase his knowledge in all fields of study is the natural next step, says Joseph.

“Joseph is a thinker. His mind is constantly whirring through logical progressions,” says Gregory Novinksi, Dean of Students at Cistercian. “I could easily see him devouring the great books or just as easily, majoring in mathematics.”

Lately, Joseph has been uniting his broad interests in a single project, crafting a fantasy world complete with its own history, geography, politics and lore, influenced by the works of author J.R.R. Tolkien. “It will be fully detailed, completely consistent, and of literary interest,” he says. Joseph has also gained from learning how to play the cello as a Young Scholar.
