Biography

Megan Richards has chosen to attend Ursinus College partly because of its superb record of placing pre-med students into medical schools. The other reason is that Ursinus recently opened a state-of-the-art performing arts center. As committed to medicine as she is, Megan says, she will always make time for singing and acting “because they help me relax and stay sane.” Such outside interests have been valuable to her in many ways. When she moved away from home, after starting school at Roycemore, she found a certain peace of mind in exploring diverse extracurricular activities. She had long before learned, during her parents divorce, that staying busy helped her manage stressful situations.

Megan defines success as “doing something that you love, which benefits others, and when you are surrounded by people you love, who love you back.” She aims to meet that goal in her personal life as well as when she’s a doctor. She should have no trouble. Her English teacher and high school adviser, Sara Monzingo, says that when Megan shadowed a pediatric surgeon during her freshman year, she not only found the spark for her interest in medicine, but also showed “a true passion for the patients and their experiences.”
