Kindra Mohr

Biography

One of the greatest challenges she has faced, says LaKindra Mohr, was supporting herself through college. She left her academic comfort zone to learn new skills in information technology in order to find a job. Her training and campus employment ultimately inspired her to undertake an interdisciplinary research project examining how information technology relates to globalization, societal trends, and democratization.

LaKindra is pursuing a dual degree in law and international relations as a steppingstone to a career in public service, focusing on Latin America. She believes that trade agreements can promote sustainable development. "In the decades to come, the economic interdependencies within the region will only grow stronger, provoking a constant reliance on trade agreements," she explains. "Through my work in the nonprofit and public sectors, I will advocate for an alternative approach to development by incorporating meaningful strategies directly into these agreements."

LaKindra says she learned at an early age to value the principles of cooperation, civic duty, and helping those in need. A volunteer job tutoring Hispanic children proved to her that public service can make a genuine difference and focused her career goals on improving the conditions for those in need in the Americas. Finally, her professional experience in Washington, D.C., most recently working for U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, affirmed her decision to eventually work in government.
