Tiffany Tajiri

Biography

My mother taught me to be a strong, independent, and self-sufficient woman while at the same time be tender and compassionate to all of God's creations." Tiffany Tajiri grew up as an only child in a single-parent home. Her mother's example, Tiffany believes, brought out her own innate drives to succeed and to help others.

Tiffany began college as a pre-medical student, but felt drawn to the balance of research and clinical aspects in the field of neuropsychology. "My passion lies in helping psychologically distressed individuals function independently in their everyday life. I enjoy using the knowledge of brain function, obtained through assessment, to more effectively tailor therapy and rehabilitation for patients with various brain abnormalities." She graduated suma cum laude from her undergraduate institution and is a published researcher who has focused her studies on the Hispanic population in the fields of biology and psychology.

Tiffany's artistic talent in music and classical ballet occupy a central place in her life. She studied viola under the guidance of Maestro Abraham Chavez, formerly of The El Paso Symphony Orchestra. She performed for more than 30,000 underprivileged El Paso schoolchildren through an award from the Miss America Scholarship Organization; Tiffany earned the prize in association with her title of Miss El Paso America 2005. "There is absolutely nothing that can replace the power of the arts and their effect on a child's developing brain. I hope to utilize my artistic experiences to provide a holistic therapy approach. The arts will play a significant role in my practicum with young children."

For Tiffany, this scholarship lifts the pressure of insufficient finances and fulfills a cherished hope: "to have the freedom to focus on my goals as a future practitioner.
