2018 Cooke Scholars and Alumni Awards

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is offering three monetary awards in 2018 for Cooke Scholars and Alumni. New this year is the Undergraduate Scholar Award in honor of Dennis I. Belcher, in addition to the Matthew J. Quinn Youth Leadership award for Young Scholars and the Matthew J. Quinn Prize for Cooke Graduate Scholars and Alumni. The awards are described below and separate guidelines are provided, as nomination and selection differ for the awards. Click on the award name for nomination specifics and forms. 

The Undergraduate Scholar Award in honor of Dennis I. Belcher is a $5,000 award that may be given annually to one or more current Cooke Undergraduate Scholars demonstrating outstanding achievement during the prior two years (January 2016 through December 2017). Such achievements might include the development of an innovative solution to a societal problem, creation of a significant community program, or publication of an important work. In all cases, it is important that the outstanding achievement touches the lives of others in meaningful ways and demonstrates impact. The Undergraduate Scholar Award will be presented by the foundation’s Board of Directors to the individual(s) selected. Winners will receive a cash prize of up to $5,000 and the recipient(s) will be honored at Scholars Weekend.

The Matthew J. Quinn Prize is a $10,000 award that may be given annually to one or more current Cooke Graduate Scholars or Alumni recognizing outstanding achievement during the prior two years. Such achievements might include the publication of an important work, development of an innovative solution to a significant societal problem, or creation of a useful community program. The Quinn Prize is awarded by the Board of Directors of the Cooke Foundation to the individual(s) selected. The Cooke Foundation may award prizes of less than $10,000 or divide the award among multiple recipients.

The Matthew J. Quinn Youth Leadership Award is a $5,000 prize that may be given annually to one or more current Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholars recognizing outstanding achievement during the prior two years. Such achievements might include the creation of a significant community program, the establishment of a student organization, or the development of an artistic or research project that supports a social cause. In all cases, it is important that the outstanding achievement touches the lives of others in meaningful ways and demonstrates impact. The Cooke Foundation may award prizes of less than $5,000 or divide the award among multiple recipients.

The nomination period for the 2018 Undergraduate Scholar Award in honor of Dennis I. Belcher, Matthew J. Quinn Prize, and Matthew J. Quinn Youth Leadership Award is open through February 2, 2018.
