Michael T. Lotze, M.D.,Ph.D. received his B.Med.Sc. and M.D. degrees from Northwestern University. During training at the University of Rochester, he initiated his scientific career at the National Cancer Institute, later joining the senior staff of the Surgery Branch at the National Institutes of Health in 1982.

Except for a brief period in Discovery Research at GlaxoSmithKline, Dr. Lotze has been at the University of Pittsburgh since 1990. He is professor of surgery and bioengineering, initiating chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology, director of translational research in the new Molecular Medicine Institute, and director of strategic partnerships in the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.

Dr. Lotze serves as associate editor of the Journal of Immunotherapy and coeditor of the texts, Cytokine Handbook [4E], Dendritic Cells [2E], and Measuring Immunity [1E]. He is the co-inventor of 14 patents in dendritic cell vaccines and antigen discovery, and the author of almost 500 scientific papers in basic and applied tumor immunology and cytokine biology.
