Reporting to the Vice President, Scholarship Program Operations, the Manager of Scholarship Selection has primary responsibility for all aspects of selecting recipients for the Young Scholars Program, College Scholarship, and Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.   The Manager develops and implements the annual application and selection processes for each class of Cooke Scholars. Specific responsibilities include: creating and maintaining online scholarship applications, managing the recruitment and training of application reviewers, supervising the outreach and selection coordinator in responding to application inquiries, tracking annual data on applicants, updating and maintaining outward facing technologies with internal databases, developing and executing a strategic plan for selection, developing selection budgets, periodically reviewing selection processes and recommending revisions, overseeing work of outside vendors, and preparing selection reports.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages scholarship application and selection processes for new Cooke Scholars each year. Maintains all components of the online application system and ensures all needs of the Foundation are met within system capabilities. Works in coordination with the Chief Technology Officer to ensure security of the application system.
  • Leads ongoing support and development of application processes. Works with Common App to ensure scheduled delivery of application data, and monitors application volume, and other key data during application open periods. Annually works to improve application forms, update questions, and collect feedback about the applicant experience.
  • Oversees activities related to the Scholar selection process; these include recruiting application readers, providing reader training and support, verifying eligibility of applicants prior to review, monitoring review committees, notifying applicants of selection decisions, and working with the Vice President in other capacities as needed to select scholarship recipients.
  • Responsible for the supervision of the Coordinator for Selection and Outreach and works closely with the Manager of Scholarship Outreach on scholarship outreach activities and on updates to selection data and policy on the Foundation’s website.
  • Oversees building and maintaining of application database and maintains selection files, email accounts, calendars, and contracts of service providers and partners.
  • Works with Vice President to analyze the selection process including annual review of selection policy and practices to ensure they are grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Assists with preparation of quarterly memos to the Board of Directors reviewing application data and selection processes and prepares memos for approval of scholarship recipients.
  • Prepares and manages budgets for selection and prepares reports for internal and external use, on a regular basis and as needed by management, Staff, and Board of Directors.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry standards and practices for selection.
  • Maintains constructive relationships with all Foundation departments and participates in management team activities.
  • Actively participates in Foundation meetings and works collaboratively with others to complete projects and goals.
  • Special projects and other tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in admissions and/or outreach of high-achieving students; education; philanthropy; or other related areas.
  • Excellent digital and analytic capacity including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Expert knowledge of the Slate Technolutions platform.
  • Good judgment, able to make sound decisions, even when under pressure.
  • High level of communication skills, influence, and interpersonal relations management. Demonstrated ability to lead a team to success.
  • A strong detail orientation and ability to work independently and simultaneously on multiple projects within close, overlapping and/or conflicting deadlines.
  • Must be a flexible team player committed to the Foundation’s mission.

  • The Foundation follows a 35-hour work week schedule for full-time positions. Exempt employees are required to work any additional hours necessary to perform the duties of the job.
