Maya Tessier

Senior Educational Adviser, Young Scholars

As a senior educational adviser, Maya provides academic advising and access to educational opportunities to the Foundation’s Cooke Young Scholars Program.

Before joining the Foundation, Maya served as a Teach For America Corps Member in Miami, where she taught 10th grade English. She also sponsored the Miami Carol City Poetry Club and helped her students advance to the semi-finals of the “Louder Than a Bomb” spoken word competition. After moving back home to Northern Virginia, Maya joined the Policy Team at College Board, where she conducted policy scans and data analysis that informed a variety of College Board initiatives and programming.

Maya holds a B.A. in Hispanic Studies with a minor in psychology from the College of William and Mary and an M.Ed. in Education Policy and Leadership from American University.
